Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need a referral from my medical doctor?
A: No. Doctors of chiropractic are portal of entry doctors
meaning that you can walk right into a chiropractor's office
without a referral.
Q: Will my insurance cover chiropractic care?
A: Most insurance companies do have chiropractic coverage.
You can contact your insurance company or we can call for you.
Chiropractic is also covered by auto insurance, Medicare and
workman's comp insurance.
Q: Can chiropractic care be painful?
A: Generally the answer is no. All the techniques are used
within your specific comfort level. However, some people are in
so much pain already, that any kind of stimulus can cause brief
soreness.
Q: I heard that once you start going you can't stop.
A: This is simply not true. The decision to continue care is
entirely up to you. However, many patients who come in for pain
continue with chiropractic care to maintain their spinal health
because of the long term benefits of care. Patients who once
thought that feeling below 100% health was healthy now
understand how chiropractic can make you feel much closer to
100%.
Q: How long does it take to feel better?
A: There are many factors that determine the length of
treatment. Everyone heals at a different rate. However, most
patients feel better within their first few treatments and sometimes
significantly better within the first visit.
Q: I heard that too much chiropractic can be damaging to
your spine.
A: No. In fact, regular chiropractic care can prevent damaging
arthritis of the spine. Keeping the spine in the proper alignment,
eliminates stress on the vertebrae and the discs which can lead
to arthritis.
Q: Is chiropractic dangerous?
A: No. In fact, a chiropractor's malpractice insurance is less than
a tenth or more of the cost of any medical doctor's insurance.
Malpractice insurance premiums are based upon frequency of
claims.
Q: How long does it take to be a chiropractor?
A: Most doctors have a 4 year degree before going to
chiropractic school. Chiropractic school itself is another 4 years
of study. Once schooling is finished, you must pass all four parts
of the national board exams and then take individual state
examinations.
Q: Are there any research studies that support
chiropractic care?
A: Tons. More and more research is being done every day.
Almost half of the chiropractic related studies are actually done
by or are funded by the medical industry.
